MHBA’s 77th annual Yearling Show

Yearling Show admission is free
The MHBA Yearling
Show is open to all yearlings eligible for Maryland-bred
registration. Usually held on the fourth Sunday in June, it is judged
by a well-known national trainer invited by the Yearling Show Committee. See the Yearling Show Guide for more information about the day.
There are four classes. One for Maryland-sired colts and
geldings (may be split evenly by date of birth after entries are
closed), one for Maryland-sired fillies (maybe split evenly
by date of birth after entries are closed), out-of-state-sired colts
and geldings, out-of-state-sired fillies.
Most importantly, in addition to prize money distributed the day
of the show, all horses exhibited are eligible for the Yearling
Show Purse Awards, totaling $40,000.
There are two opportunities to win these purse awards.
A $40,000 MHBA Yearling Show purse will be split and distributed
twice:
$20,000 will go to the top four money-winners* racing as 2-year-olds
and another $20,000 will be awarded the following year to the four
highest-earning* 3-year-old performers.
*all earnings verifiable by The Jockey Club.

Class Descriptions
-
Classes I
For colts and geldings foaled in Maryland, the produce
of mares covered in Maryland. Classes will be split evenly,
based on foaling date, after entries have closed.

Class II.
For colts and geldings foaled in Maryland, the produce of mares
covered in states other than Maryland.

Classes III.
For fillies foaled in Maryland, the produce of mares covered
in Maryland. Classes will be split evenly, based on foaling
date, after entries have been closed.

Class IV.
For fillies foaled in Maryland, the produce of mares covered
in states other than Maryland.

Class V.
Championship Class. Grand Champion and Reserve Champion will be
judged from the winners of Classes I - IV.
The Foxharbor Farm Challenge Trophy will be presented to the
Grand Champion of the show.
$25 Entry fee for each yearling entered

Prize money in Classes I through VI will total $6,000, $1,000
in each class.

Prize money distribution: first $500, second $200, third $150,
fourth $100, fifth $50.

There is a Grand Champion cash award of $1,000 and a Reserve
Champion cash award of $500.

The Foxharbor Farm Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the
owner of the Grand Champion yearling to hold for one year.

This trophy must be won three times by the same exhibitor to
become his permanent possession.

Permanent trophies will be awarded to the Grand Champion yearling
and the Reserve Champion yearling.

Cash prizes of $500 each will be given in Class I, Class II,
Class IV and Class V to the Maryland Million nominee earning the
highest ribbon.

NEGATIVE COGGINS TEST required within 12 months of show date
in compliance with the Maryland Department of Agriculture regulations.

Proof of vaccination for EHV-1 certificate from a licensed veterinarian showing that your yearling has been vaccinated between 7 and 90 days prior to the show date.

The show starts promptly at 10 a.m. Vans please use north
gate on York Road—follow signs to unloading ramps behind
Cow Palace.

Stalls will not be available until the morning of the show
on a first-come basis. Straw will be provided.
EXHIBITORS MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN HAY AND
WATER BUCKETS.
Amateur Judging Contest
Visitors are invited to participate in a Judging
Contest for Class IV at the Yearling Show. The contest will be open
to all. Contestants will not be permitted in the judging ring. Cards
will be collected before the judge makes his official placings.
A trophy will be awarded to the highest ranking amateur judge of
each sex participating in the contest.
Groom’s Awards
An award of $100 will be given to the groom of the best turned out
yearling in each class, the Grand Champion and the Reserve Champion. |
