Time is now for Marylanders: Your vote FOR slots is a vote FOR the future.

Here in Maryland our future will be decided on November 4, when the citizens go to the polls to cast their vote on the slots referendum. Maryland’s Thoroughbred industry, as we know it today, is going to change after that date, of that we can be certain. If the referendum passes and the projected revenues become a reality, the horse industry will be able to compete and prosper. All of the states with slots have proven this.

But if the referendum fails, the prospect of Maryland maintaining a viable Thoroughbred business community is probably doomed to failure as well. Maryland’s long and storied horse breeding and racing accomplishments will be relegated to historical archives.
None of us wants to be a footnote in history.

The time for Marylanders is now. It is our chance to participate in the democratic process. Be persistent, do it proudly, and make your vote count.

The time is now for everyone who is involved in the horse industry to be heard. It’s time for all Marylanders who don’t want higher taxes or cuts to education funding and state programs to be counted. The future is in our hands. Take the lead, be proactive, and use this opportunity to stand up for slots.

It will take all of us but if we work together and pass the slots referendum, the horse industry will benefit. There is dedicated revenue to purses and bred funds in the legislation. Those additional funds will make all the difference.

To get to this point, this opportunity to vote, has taken many years of study and debate, but now is the time for unanimous support of the slots referendum. It is not only important?–?it is imperative.

We are heading into the homestretch, the finish line is in our sights, and this is when the heart and wind are tested. We have to dig deep and find the will to win?–?switch leads and prick our ears and cross the wire in front. If we do all that we can make it to the winner’s circle. But the time is now to get the word out, to mobilize, and to vote FOR question 2, for Maryland and for our future.
