Bee Bee Bee and Include added to Maryland Thoroughbred Hall of Fame

Classic winner Bee Bee Bee and Pimlico Special winner Include are the newest members selected for induction into the Maryland Thoroughbred Hall of Fame, as voted on by a committee of Maryland racing industry members coordinated by the Maryland Horse Breeders Association and Maryland Racing Media Association.

The two will be celebrated during a ceremony at the Timonium race meet, after the fifth race, on Friday, Sept. 4.

Thornmar yearling brings $335,000 at Saratoga

The first foal for Maryland-bred multiple stakes winner Coconut Cake sold for $335,000 at Fasig-Tipton’s select yearling sale in Saratoga on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 11. The chestnut son of Vekoma, named Kringle, was consigned by Northview Stallion Station (David Wade), agent for breeders Charles and Cynthia McGinnes, who also bred his dam.

Voting is underway for the 2026 Maryland Thoroughbred Hall of Fame class. Ten horses, from classic winners to Eclipse Award winners to millionaires, are on the final ballot. The legacy of famed Maryland-bred mare Jameela grows as her Mr. Prospector son Gulch is set to enter the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame on Friday, Aug. 7 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The Eclipse Award champion Breeders' Cup winner was voted in this year by the Historic Review Category committee.

Irish Jig gets first stakes victory in Miss Disco

Heavy-hitters Just Philtored and Slewperstitus, facing each other for the fifth time in their short careers, lined up against three others in the $125,000 Miss Disco Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on Saturday, July 11 at Colonial Downs. The ending of the seven-furlong stakes restricted to Maryland or Virginia-bred or-sired runners, delayed a week due to the brutal 4th of July heat, provided plenty of fireworks.

2026 MHBA Board of Directors election results

The Maryland Horse Breeders Association membership has selected three incumbents and two new members to the 2026 Board of Directors, it was announced at the MHBA's Annual General Membership meeting on the afternoon of June 24 at the Maryland Horse Library & Education Center in Reisterstown. Dictated by MHBA bylaws, the annually held election fills five open seats on the board. Those elected will serve for the next three years.

When Laurel Park goes dark in July and August, Maryland-bred runners will be eligible to earn breeder, owner, developer and stallion bonuses while racing this summer at Colonial Downs and Delaware Park.
